April 25, 2013
Well, I have survived two weeks. Haha the best way to
describe it for me is 'survive'. The days are getting longer but the weeks are
shorter it feels like. They call this our third week so we are half way there,
kind of hard to believe.
P-Day was great last week! We went to the temple for
breakfast and a session. I forgot how much I love and miss the temple. The
Provo temple is beautiful! I love it there! I will definitely be visiting more
temples when I get home! We wrote letters, had a sack lunch and I napped haha.
I haven't ever been so tired before in my life yet I am getting 8 hours of
sleep and sitting in a classroom all day. I don't understand but whate'er :) We
had class in the evening so we don't have the whole day off.
Saturday was long but great. We had two blocks of three hour
class, one in the afternoon and then the evening. It was rough trying to stay
awake but the evening lesson was one of my favorites so far. Our teachers
Hermano Durron and Hermana Russell did to 40 minute demonstration on a door
approach. It was great! I loved every minute of it! We watched a video from
"1 in a million" a site that has people's story that live in New
York. His name was Joseph and I loved him! He was an incredible grandfather and
I couldn't wait to teach him. We talked about his needs and found what
principles of the Restoration he needed to address in his life. Haha I guess I
knew that's how it worked but to actually do it was life changing. I finally
felt like, "Wow, I can be a missionary." It was great! :)
Sunday was great as always. Music and the Spoken Word,
bueno! I loved "Consider the Lillies", it was always my personal
favorite at home so it was great to hear it again :) For Relief Society, we had
Cheryl Esplin, the 2nd counselor in the General Primary Presidency. We also had
two of the General Young Women Presidency there too! It was great! She had us
sing "I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints". I
(of course) loved it! It was cool to stand and sing it with the other sisters! Sacrament I was put in as the music coordinating leader and from my
understanding I just pick the songs and ask someone to lead/play but I am
excited :) As I took of the sacrament, I felt a better understanding of what it
will mean for my investigators and the importance of the Atonement. I am so
grateful for the opportunity I have to help others to come unto Christ and be
baptized so they can repent and be forgiven of their sins, it's a beautiful
thing! Temple walk was great! I ran into Hermana Beus, Elder Kunzler and Elder
Spackman. It is soooo nice to run into familiar faces. I even saw Jennica
P. and Liz R. haha Kind of random but it was good to see someone
from the "outside world" or "pre-life" as our district
refers to it. Haha it's just nice to get out sometimes. The devotional was the
BYU Men's Chorus which, of course, I got a little giddy because it was one: choir music and two: it was a men's choir! I loved it! They sang a lot of my
favorites including "Come Thou Fount", looooved it! They also gave
some advice for us missionaries since most of them are RM's. Some include,
"He atoned for you individually. It was infinite, it was intimate."
and "God doesn't expect perfection but is good with progression." It
was a great reminder because I know me and my companion are really hard on
ourselves but we are progressing :)
We had a new investigator, Esperanza. She was nice but we
are having a hard time reading her. She wants us there but she surely doesn't
act like it. So it's been a work in progress trying to figure out what to do :)
Brother David F. Evans of the Seventy gave our devotional
Sunday. It was great but one of my favorite parts is he said "(As
missionaries) We are preserved". It was a simple line but it has
helped me a lot. I still haven't accepted the fact I am going to Peru haha and
I am scared out of my mind thinking about it. But I know if I listen to the
Spirit and be obedient, I'll be fine because I am preserved. :)
We did TRC yesterday for the first time, I was soo scared but
I loved every minute of it! Our district is a part of a pilot program for TRC
so it was interesting. We walked into a room and just got to know some people
and talk for like 20 minutes... A great learning
experience! I can't wait for next week!
I have never realized how much I miss being outside haha. It
is crazy! I can't wait to be out tracting in the "outside world". My Spanish is coming but it is just going to take time. I can understand a lot, if
they don't talk too fast haha :) Some of my favorite phrases are
"Como un jefe" (like a boss) and "Bakan" for awesome haha
it's great!
Until next week!
