Well, another week in the Washington D.C. South mission :)
Did I mention that I love it here? Seriously, I would be okay with staying here
:) It is sooo beautiful and the people are generally nice. Just a great place
to live!
So cool story for the
week. Last P-Day we were doing our shopping at Target and a worker came up to
us and asked if we needed help. We replied that we were doing alright but thank
you. Then she just kind of just paused, then asked if we would be willing to meet
with her son. He was looking for a church and had a couple friends that were
Mormon and was really interested. Can you see a missionaries' dream?! Haha I
was kind of in awe as I fumbled in my purse for a card to give her. We met with
him later last week and he was really receptive, he is 15 years old and pretty
smart. His concern was that we couldn't have soda- I assured him I was a Coke
kind of girl and there was nothing wrong about it :) (Don't worry Loi, I
haven't had any since I left. I can survive without Coke ;) ) IT was so great!
I am excited to where this will go!
We had quite a few
meetings last week; zone conference, zone training and "Launching
leaders".
Zone conference was
with President and Sister Riggs, the Assistants and the Sister Training
Leaders. I learned a lot and how important it is to listen to the Holy Ghost. I
realized I haven't been listening as well as I should have been because of the
Spanish barrier. I am doing better! One instance last week, we had just
finished teaching lesson one and we were setting up a next visit when I felt to
say "J, what are your feelings right now?" And he opened up how he
wants to return to his country to be with his kids. His youngest is my age and
he hasn't seen her since she was 4. They have talked and such but it's still
not the same. I have a testimony that it is very important to listen to the
Holy Ghost, no matter how crazy it may seem to put a "I'm a Mormon"
card in a random tool box.... Not that we did that or anything... :)
Zone training was
good to learn from the Zone leaders! President Riggs is wanting us to implement
a new way of planning for investigators that helps us develop a vision for
them. It is more work but it will help us!
Launching leaders is
different skills that they teach each month or so. They taught us how to give a
talk. As basic as that may seem, it was great! I learned a lot of things I had
never thought. So... I promise to never write out a talk again :) Even in Spanish haha. That's going to be hard but I am going to try!
So visas. Two Hermanas that came with me received them.
The sister in our district got it Saturday and is leaving tomorrow. When you
get it, they kick you out apparently. Haha so if you don't hear from me, you'll
know why! I have no idea what's going on with my visa but that's okay, nothing
to worry about :)
Things are going
good, I've learned each day you have to commit to be a missionary. Sometimes
during the day you have to re-commit. The Church is true, the Gospel is true
and I am grateful to be serving those in Leesburg. I might be knocking trailer
doors and town houses, speaking a language I do not know but I know that the
message we have will change their lives for the better.
Love my family and
miss them. I was thinking about the family parties we would have had for
Father's day, made me a little homesick. BUT I know this is where I am supposed
to be right now and there will be plenty of family parties when I get home :)
